The Angel Who Brought Mary Wonderful News: A Christmas Bible Story for Kids

A short Christmas story about Mary, Gabriel and learning to trust God while asking questions.

Long ago, in a town called Nazareth, lived a young woman named Mary. One day, God sent the angel Gabriel to her with wonderful news.

Mary was troubled by his greeting, but Gabriel told her not to be afraid. She would have a son named Jesus, and He would be called the Son of God.

Mary asked how this could happen, since she was a virgin. Gabriel explained that the Holy Spirit would come upon her. This baby would be God's Son.

Mary did not know every detail of the journey ahead. Still, she accepted what God was asking of her: “I am the Lord's servant.” Her faithful response became part of the Christmas story we share today.

Trust Can Leave Room for Questions

Mary's story reminds us that faith does not mean having every answer—or never asking a question. She listened, asked and responded with trust.

When something feels new or uncertain, children can talk to God and ask a trusted adult for help. They do not have to hide their worries or work everything out alone.

Talk together: What is one thing you would like help with this week?

Try this today: Listen to your child's answer, choose one small step together and pray: “Dear God, help us trust You and care for one another. Amen.”

Bible reference: Luke 1:26–38. This is a shortened retelling.
